Young People & Sexual Health
We provide a confidential service to ALL our patients, including under 16s.
This means that YOU can tell others about visiting the surgery but we won’t.
Young people under 16 can make at least one appointment for themselves without their parent’s or carer’s consent. At this first appointment the doctor will need to make sure that the young person can fully understand any advice or treatment plan.
We offer a comprehensive sexual health service including contraceptive advice , chlamydia screening & pregnancy testing.
Appointments can be made with a male or female doctor & can be after school.
There is also a new dedicated health service for young people in Berkshire
Young people in the Reading, Wokingham and West Berkshire areas can now benefit from a confidential health service, set up exclusively for them.
Juice Points, commissioned by NHS Berkshire West, bring together current good practice already in place and new provision offering health services and advice for 11 to 19 year olds.
Provided by specialist nurses who work regularly with young people, together with Local Authority youth service teams, twelve ‘drop in’ Juice Points will offer:
- help if worried or stressed about something
- advice on diet and nutrition
- advice on drugs
- help to stop smoking
- help with issues about drinking and alcohol
- free condoms
- pregnancy tests
- emergency contraception (morning after pill)
- advice on and supplies of contraception
- chlamydia testing
